There are no “Sour” feelings for this week’s Behind the Fan because it's all about Olivia Rodrigo! We interviewed Amélie, a second-generation Filipina from Melbourne, Australia. She runs the account @liv.source and we are excited to share her story with you. 🌟
She’s been a fan of Olivia’s for nearly 3 years and her favorite thing about Olivia is how authentic she is. Amélie says her authenticity is what makes Olivia and her music so special! From what she’s heard Olivia invites fans to events and writes them cards after concerts because she is so grateful for them! 🌈
Amélie loves the songs “Enough for You” and “1 Step Forward, 3 Steps Back” for the same reason she was drawn to Olivia. Amélie shared with us how she related to the lyrics. These two songs reminded her a lot of a toxic relationship she was in and the songs helped her get through it and continue to help her through difficult times. ✨
While we LOVE those songs, Amélie's favorite performance of Olivia is a video of her performing “Drivers License" at the Sour Tour. When asked why this video was her favorite, Amélie said “it's one of her 'I made it' moments in my eyes, and having watched her grow up into the incredible woman and artist she is today, it just makes me so proud to see her this successful and happy.” 🎤
Her favorite memory of Olivia Rodrigo is when she won three Grammys! "It was another 'she made it' moment and it's hard for me to believe that she's not the same 14-year-old kid from Bizaardvark anymore." Amélie hasn't had the chance to see Rodrigo live yet but she hopes to one day! If she could plan Olivia’s next concert, Amélie said she would love to see Olivia perform with Conan Gray and Lydia Night because of their public friendship. She would also like to see Olivia perform some of her old stuff from her Disney days as a reflection on where she came from. 👑
Watching Olivia grow as an artist isn't the only thing Amélie likes about having a fan account. She's very grateful for all the friends she's made through the account and it's comforting to know that there are people who have the same passion for music as she does! The best experience she's had running the account is when Rodrigo's real-life best friend Iris Apatow shared Amélie's post on her story and tagged Olivia! 🥳
Lastly, we asked Amélie to pretend she was sending a message to Olivia and asked her what she'd say. She replied, “if I could send Olivia a message I’d just like to say: Liv, thank you for being such an inspiration to me. As a young Filipina woman myself, it means so much to have someone to look up to who looks like me and who can represent others like us in the media and let our voices be heard! I’m also just so proud of how far you’ve come. From watching you on Disney Channel to watching you win three Grammy awards, I couldn’t possibly be happier for you, and you deserve every achievement and all of your success and so, so much more. I’m endlessly grateful for you. You’re truly my favorite person in the whole world. I love you so, so much." — Amélie 💐
