There has been an abundance of women who have helped shape the world into what it is today. In honor of Women’s History Month, we will be showcasing some of our favorite artists who are inspiring and empowering women everywhere! From influencing popular culture to carrying out humanitarian actions, these women have used their platforms for things much greater than themselves. 🚺

Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus has been a staple in pop culture since the early 2000s. Starring on Disney Channel as Hannah Montana, Miley influenced an entire generation. Her uplifting songs were on every tween’s iPod, and her fashion inspired many. Miley graduated to teen music like “7 Things” and “Can’t Be Tamed”, eventually transitioning to party anthems like, “We Can’t Stop,” proving herself a force to be reckoned with! On top of her incredible abilities in music, Miley is also quite the philanthropist. In 2014, Miley created The Happy Hippie Foundation. This cause aims to help homeless youth, LGBTQ+ youth, and other vulnerable populations by providing support and resources. Happy Hippie raises awareness for its causes through fundraising. Miley has always shown us that you can change your image, while also staying true to yourself! She wants every fan to feel welcome and accepted, and she has done so much to educate those about LGBTQ+ rights! Miley truly believes in the power of young people to change the world. 🌎

Lady Gaga

Of course we have to mention the Mother Monster herself, Lady Gaga! Making her debut appearance into the music world in 2008 with “Just Dance”, she has remained a constant in the industry ever since! At the beginning of her career, Gaga was known for her out-of-the-box outfits that had people in awe 24/7. With amazing songs like “Born This Way”, Gaga always encouraged her fans to truly express themselves and embrace who they are!! Her confidence coupled with her raw talent made her one of the biggest pop stars in the world, and she has continued in all of her work to help others to be themselves! Through her Born This Way Foundation, Gaga has helped support young people and their journey to bettering their mental health! This is all in her incredible effort to make the world a more kind and accepting place. The Born This Way Foundation is making strides in eliminating stigmas surrounding mental health, and Gaga has always made it clear that the Little Monsters are really a family! 👏🏽

Beyoncé

A key woman who has done such a significant amount for pop culture and the world around her is Beyoncé! Beyoncé has 22 number one singles to her name! She has helped so many people around the world to find their inner queen and believe in themselves! With songs like "Run the World (Girls)", she is always empowering her fans to know who they are and to express themselves! Particularly through her incredible dance moves and her powerful music, Bey wants us all to know that we can achieve anything through hard work. She shows us that we need to help each other along the way. Through her organization BeyGOOD, Beyoncé has helped with housing crises, natural disasters, and the Covid-19 pandemic. BeyGOOD has also partnered with causes relating to drug rehabilitation and mental health awareness. A defining icon of our generation, we certainly understand how she achieved the nickname “Queen Bey”! 👑

Rihanna

We must talk about the ever fabulous Rihanna. With 14 number one hits, she has made a lasting mark on the music industry! Rihanna put music on hold to focus on other ventures that have now made her a billionaire. With Fenty Beauty and Savage X Fenty, Rihanna encourages people to be comfortable in their own skin. The Savage X Fenty runway show is always people of all sizes, genders, ethnicities, and personalities. Rihanna has always expressed that she believes everyone should feel beautiful as they are, and both of her amazing brands support this!! But she doesn’t stop there! Rihanna also created The Clara Lionel Foundation in 2012 to supply medical equipment to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Rihanna’s hometown of Bridgetown, Barbados. Rihanna’s passion for helping and encouraging others is prevalent, and we admire her so much! 😍

Taylor Swift

Since her beginning, Taylor Swift has been pushing boundaries and speaking out about the treatment of women within the music industry. She has been speaking out against others discrediting women in music since her 2010 release of her album Speak Now, in which she was credited as the only songwriter. She later explained how she did this because of the comments about whether or not she wrote her own music. With 42 Grammy nominations, and 11 wins, it seems pretty clear this girl has talent!! Swift has continued to speak out against the constant remark, and against people that allude to a woman's success being because of a man (cue the song "The Man"). Taylor Swift has become an icon for celebrating the things that you love without anyone looking down on you and your passions! She is also known to help out her fans who might be facing a hardship. She has donated to families in need, but she also will directly reach out to her fans to check in with them. Taylor Swift really creates the environment that you are not just a fan, but a friend of hers as well! 💖

Lizzo

Lizzo has made many incredible contributions to the industry! Moving around the country in pursuit of success, her hard work and talent have paid off. With 3 Grammy awards to her name and 3 number one singles, Lizzo has used her platform to uplift women and advocate for body positivity. With singles like "Better in Color” and “Truth Hurts”, she is encouraging women, particularly women of color, to be proud of who they are and to know your own worth! Lizzo is always about speaking your mind and helping the next person in line. With her show, Watch Out for the Big Grrrls, Lizzo sets the perfect example of inclusivity in her own brand and career! Not only is she about body positivity and confidence, but she is also helping to shed light on the conversation surrounding mental health. She has worked to help normalize discussion about the things in life that can be more difficult to share, and she has promoted therapy for both physical and mental health! 💪🏽

We have only scratched the surface of powerful women in the music industry! Pop culture, and specifically in music, would not be what it is without the talent and drive these women bring to the table. These women and so, so many others are using their platform and influence to better the world around them through acts of service, raising awareness, and donations. We feel so fortunate to live in a world with quite a few amazing female role models to look up to and learn from. 🤩
