One Direction fans were heartbroken when the band announced their “hiatus” back in 2016. However, fans also looked forward to hearing solo music from Niall, Harry, Liam, Louis, and Zyan individually. And fans were not ready for the life-giving songs that these boys would bring us. On May 12, 2017, Harry Styles released his first solo album. This week on social media, many Harry Styles fans reminisced about their favorite songs and shows that came from the release of his debut album 3 years ago. One of our favorite stories comes from Katy Enyeart who was lucky enough to go to Harry Styles's secret show in London the night after his solo album release! She shared her story with us, and we want to share it with you!
Katy has been a One Direction fan since 2012, and as you could have guessed, her favorite member was Harry Styles. In May of 2017, Katy just happened to be on a trip with her friends in Europe when Harry was releasing his first album. They were in London on May 12th, 2017 (the day Harry released his first album), and decided to drop by the local morning show where Harry was performing! Katy and her friends were able to go to see his live performance and we're soooo hyped to finally hear his solo record.
They had a busy day scheduled for the next morning so she woke up around 7:55 A.M. Within minutes, Harry tweeted about a secret small show that night and that tickets were going on sale in 20 minutes! London is a big place, but luckily, she was staying right near the venue. She told her friends to go start their day without her. She was on a mission to go get this ticket!
She ran to the venue, fortunately, got there quick enough, and got the coveted Harry Styles ticket!!! The ticket only cost around $10 and the venue said it would be a small show. They told her to come back that evening to get in line for the show. She was able to go be a tourist all day and peace out that night to go back to the venue for the show of a lifetime! Katy said, “It was his first-ever solo show, and it was crazy that I happened to be in town and was able to go.”
She recounted that this was the first (and probably only) show where he played straight through the album in order. “It was such an intimate show, and you could tell he was so proud of this album, and that fact that we knew it within hours of it being released made him so happy.” His voice, his songwriting ability, his emotion, and the way he accepts everyone are all reasons that Katy loves him so much. March 13, 2017 is a day she will never forget.
Want to watch part of this historic performance?! Here is a video Katy took of Harry singing "Stockholm Syndrome," a 1D fav. We love you all and hope you are staying happy and healthy!
