At any point in time, there has always been a massive boyband ruling the music charts. In the 60s, it was The Beatles and The Jackson 5. In the 90s, it was Boyz II Men, the Backstreet Boys, Hanson, *NSYNC, and 98 Degrees. And in the 2000s, the reign of the Jonas Brothers began.
The Jonas Brothers were the first band that I remember loving. I bought their CDs, joined their fan club (shout out to past Team Jonas members!) and started bonding with friends over our love for the same music. But for me, being a fan of the Jonas Brothers was not just about music. It was about becoming a part of a community.
After moving to a new city, the Jonas Brothers helped me bond with my new best friends. I remember meeting my soon-to-be best friend at the lunch table and our first conversation was about Hannah Montana’s: Best of Both Worlds Tour, which the Jonas Brothers were a part of. This was 2007 and that was the most sought after ticket of the year. My new friend and I talked constantly about our favorite Jonas Brother, Nick, and had weekly jam sessions to “Hold On.”
As the Jonas Brothers grew in popularity, I remember more and more of my friends getting together before the shows to get ready. We made music videos to their songs, had Camp Rock premiere parties and never missed a concert when they were in town. My love for the Jonas Brothers peaked when my family and I got the opportunity to travel to New York and meet Nick, Joe, and Kevin.
Many concerts and a six-year Jonas Brothers breakup later, my friend still texts me about the Jonas Brothers. In fact, she texted me the second they announced a reunion. The text said, “SARAHHHHHHH,” with a link to the iconic remake of “Oh, how the tables have turned” video.
