Unless you live under a rock, you have been blasting “driver’s license” on repeat over the past few weeks. We have been singing this song at the top of our lungs! And maybe ugly crying along too… Regardless, we have the genius behind the song, Olivia Rodrigo, to thank for this masterpiece! 🤩

Many of us know Olivia from Disney+’s “High School Musical The Musical: The Series” where she stars as one of the main characters. This is where she got her start alongside her co-star and rumored “driver’s license” inspiration, Joshua Bassett. Between acting, singing, and songwriting, it seems like there’s nothing she can’t do! 😍

While on the show, Olivia released her first song, “All I Want,” and boy did we love it! This song was featured on the show, and introduced her to the music industry as it was the show’s most popular song. Little did we know what was in store for her over the next year!✨

Olivia has said that she is a huge fan of our other favorite songwriting queen, Ms. Taylor Swift! “driver’s license” is very Swift-esque as Olivia writes about a boy who broke her heart, and WOW did it all make us cry. Some of the biggest Swifties in the world were here to support Olivia and make sure that everyone would see her incredible talent. All of this social media buzz was just the beginning. Taylor herself showed love and support for the new single, and as someone who is THE songwriting queen, we have to wonder if Ms. Swift could see the potential of this song! 💜

“driver’s license” is definitely a hit song for almost every fangirl out there, but looking at the numbers, what Olivia Rodrigo accomplished is absolutely incredible! At only 17, Olivia took the entire world by storm as her song gained 21 million streams only three days after its release. Her song also debuted at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and has stayed there over the past two weeks. Her success isn’t just in the US. She also debuted at #1 on the Billboard Global 200 chart!🏆

But just when we thought she couldn’t break any more records, “driver’s license” set the record across the world for the most streams on Spotify in a day on January 11th. And like a true queen, she continued to break this record the next day! Yes - she broke her OWN record. This brought her the well deserved title of having the #1 Global and U.S. song debut on Spotify! She surpassed music superstars Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber! 😲

Just when we thought it couldn’t get any more magical, Olivia released a music video for “driver’s license” alongside the single. This car themed music video reminds us what it’s like to be young and in love! We are blessed with clips of Olivia driving and playing a keyboard, and it has us in our FEELS! Just like her hero, Ms. Swift, Oliva leaves behind little golden nuggets for fans to find! Between different video clips and lyrical symbolism, the video kept fans speculating what the meanings behind her lyrics were. 📹
