For this week’s blog post, we talked to Mei-Mei Martin, a super fan of Shawn Mendes. She shared her fan project story for Shawn with us, and we loved it so much, we wanted to share it with you!
Before getting into the fan project, Mei-Mei became a fan of Shawn back when he made vines and Youtube covers online. She got attached to his music because of how well written his songs were and how all of them had such positive messages. One specific song of Shawn’s, “Youth”, is what really inspired her to create a fan project with her friend, Jamie Macinnis.
For the fan project, Mei-Mei used the quote “we are the leaders of tomorrow” to put on the signs. “I chose the saying because in Shawn Mendes’s speech throughout the song “Youth”, he mentions how we have the power to change the future.” Mei-Mei, Jamie, and some other friends printed a bunch of copies of the sign and got to the venue as early as they could to hand out the posters.
When Shawn played “Youth” live, everyone held up the signs, which not only displayed their love for Shawn and his music, but the message of this song as well. We know we would definitely get the chills if we were a part of this project!
